Projects
Following is a list of projects we've got going on or in the queue for action or discussion. If you're interested in helping out with any please contact Mark Miller via email or at 510-967-5482.
- encouraging a sense of shared purpose among singers throughout the
Bay Area
- encouraging people to sing in other locations (e.g. Berkeley residents singing in Palo Alto) - in progress
- creating a discussion email list and online community - done
- creating a logo and putting on mugs, Tshirts, PR materials - in progress
- scouting for awesome new singing venues - in progress
- improving utility, usability, and easy-authorship of the BASH website (perhaps moving it away from fasola.org, including a list of upcoming singings, or embedding a google calendar on the site) - under consideration
- streamlining, formalizing, simplifying, and cheapening processes
- striving for a consistent brand through use of logo, slogan, and style guide
- migrating our Filemaker database of media contacts into another, more generally accessible format - done
- merging above database with word and excel files with electronic media sources - done
- migrating to a new PR model that doesn't involve sending over US Post to individuals or media sources (populating BASH-discussion and -announce lists) - done
- setting up a resources website for event (conventions, all-day singings, demonstrations, etc.) planners in the Bay Area and elsewhere - under consideration
- setting up a decision-making framework that reflects the ideals of Sacred Harp
- improving our visibility to and retention of potential singers
- making materials available out our website of interest to the press: audio files, pictures, video, etc.
- making point to greet and otherwise make newcomers feel welcome at Monday night singings
- making sign for Ridge Road describing Sacred Harp
- making better box for holding our stuff at Monday night singings
- announcing bathrooms, book buying opportunities, donations, what's-going-on-here document
- making tabloid-size posters with tear-offs for major events
- rethinking PR materials (e.g. flyers) in a post-USMail environment
- concentrating PR efforts onto fewer media outlets (e.g. KQED's "Do List," getting "Awake My Soul" onto KQED, etc.)
- attending and flyering at open mics, contra dances, folks fests, etc.
- increasing awareness of Sacred Harp history, traditions, etc.
- moving Golden Gate singing to Sunday, and have singing school on preceding Saturday
- setting up a media library for books, CDs and DVDs related to Sacred Harp
- encouraging out-of-towners to our singings, and our folks elsewhere
- supporting various fasola.org projects:
- put all press information online at fasola.org
- make minutes book information more flexibly available (i.e. kept in a database)
- make single, authoritave list of conventions and other regular singings that spans tunebooks
- create google maps mash-up/ directions for singing locations and directions
- make mobile phone or lite-web concordance
- make historical minutes information available for sociological research
- make current midi files available (in abc notation?) for musicological research
