The Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association will hold Camp Fasola for learning Sacred Harp singing, history, and traditions for the seventh consecutive year. Camp Fasola is open to both youth and adults, beginners and experienced singers. Multiple daily sessions will be devoted to teaching Sacred Harp singing, as well as times for recreation, rest, fellowship, and singing. All campers will be expected to perform some area of service during the week. More than 200 campers attended in 2008.
Sleeping quarters at Camp McDowell are motel style rooms with two full beds (linens provided) and private bathroom. (Camp fee is for double occupancy. Add $100 for single occupancy / subject to availability.) Sleeping quarters at Camp Lee are lodge style with bunk beds (linens not provided) and community bathrooms (separate lodges for males and females). Camp fee (includes four nights air-conditioned lodging and meeting rooms, eleven meals, snacks, t-shirts, lessons, and activities) for those participating in all Sacred Harp sessions is $150 for age 29 and under ($100 for second/additional youth in a family) and $300 for age 30 and up. Camp fee for guests not participating in the Sacred Harp activities is $400. Reservations are available on a first come / first served basis with a deposit of $50. We are unable to accommodate campers 6-9 years of age without a parent/guardian who will be responsible for supervising them around the clock. (You should expect that this will require taking housing in a hotel at your expense). Travel to camp is the responsibility of campers. Please note that singings are held nearby on the weekends before and after both sessions of camp.

MULTIPLE CAMP SESSIONS
We are again holding two separate camp sessions this year in an effort to accommodate all who want to attend.
Session 1 will begin on Sunday, June 14th at 5:00 p.m. and will run through Thursday, June 18th at 8:30 a.m. This session will be programmed with an emphasis for adults (fewer recreation options, more singing elective classes). Session 1 will be held at Camp McDowell (www.campmcdowell.com) on Alabama Highway 195 between Jasper and Double Springs. (Note that the National Convention will be held following camp on June 18-20 in Birmingham.)
Session 2 will begin on Monday, June 29th at 4:00 p.m. and will run through Friday, July 3rd at 9:00 a.m. This session will be programmed with an emphasis for youth and adults under age 30 (full recreation schedule, few singing elective classes). Session 2 will be held at Camp Lee (www.camplee.org) near Anniston, Alabama.
While the two camp sessions are not exclusive for different age groups, the sessions are structured to offer classes and activities that better fit the interests shown by youth and adults in past camps. Session 2 will have a large majority of its camper slots reserved for youth. Adults who desire to accompany their youth may attend Session 2. Also, some campers may need to attend a particular session to fit their personal schedules.
LODGING
Sleeping quarters at Camp McDowell (Session 1) are motel style rooms with two full beds (linens provided) and private bathroom. (Session 1 camp fee is for double occupancy. Add $100 for single occupancy / subject to availability.)
Camp Lee lodge sleeping accommodations will be divided into separate areas for males and females with open lodge style (up to 20 per room) with camp bunk beds and community bathrooms. Camp Lee sleeping quarters are oriented to youth campers, so most adults find the beds “comfort challenging.” All the sleeping and meeting areas are air conditioned. Session 2 campers are responsible for providing all your own linens: sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, etc. Some campers elect to stay off-site at local hotels at their own expense (camp fees are not reduced) after evening activities end and return for breakfast in the morning. If you plan to stay off-site, please notify us in advance.
MEALS
Meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be offered buffet-style in the camp dining hall. A specific vegetarian menu may not be provided, but salads and sometimes other vegetables are available. We will also provide snacks in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon. (If you would like to bring treats such as drinks, cookies, brownies, fruit, chips, or other food for the snack times, we would appreciate it.)
RECREATION
Camp Fasola recreation will include swimming, hiking, canoeing, rock slide (a Camp Lee exclusive), zip line (Camp Lee only), fishing (bring your own gear), ropes courses, exercise class, crafts, horseshoes, and games.
LESSONS
We will have a good selection of lessons and electives, so you will have at least three hours of singing school lessons per day plus more singing each night. We will have sessions for all levels of experience from beginners through experienced singers.
COUNSELORS
Counselors will supervise camp activities for youth age 10 to 18 for Session 2 only. Parents/guardians or grandparents are responsible for accompanying and supervising children ages 6-9 at all times for all activities, meals, classes, and sleeping. Campers will be asked to perform some area of service during camp.
OTHER SINGINGS
There are all-day singings in the area on the weekends before and after both sessions of Camp Fasola. The National Convention will be held on June 18-20 following Session 1. The Independence Day Singing will again be held at Camp Lee on Friday, July 3rd at the conclusion of Session 2. The Independence Day singing will begin at 9:00 a.m., and lunch will be available for purchase at the Camp Lee dining hall.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation to Camp Lee is the responsibility of campers. We will try to help connect campers who are flying into the Atlanta or Birmingham airports so that you can try to carpool / arrange rides together.
ARRIVAL
Check-in for Session 1 will be conducted between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14th. Check-in for Session 2 will be conducted between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29th. We request that you let us know if you will be arriving later. You will be issued your room assignment, Camp Fasola T-Shirts, and the final camp schedule of events.
