Labor Day Singing

Shoal Creek Church, North of Heflin, Alabama

The annual Labor Day Sacred Harp Singing met at Shoal Creek Church, Talladega National Forest, ten miles north of Heflin, Alabama on the first Monday in September.

The class was called to order by Jeff Sheppard leading song on page 36b. Felton Denney offered the morning prayer. Jeff Sheppard led song on page 87; Roy Nelson 145t; and Mary Florence Smith 63.

The class organized for the day with the following officers elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—Jeff Sheppard; Vice Chairman—Roy Nelson; Secretary—Mary Florence Smith; Arranging Committee—Hester Edwards and Josephine Denney.

In the absence of Joe Jones, Secretary and Treasurer of the Preservation Committee for Shoal Creek Church, Sonja Randall gave a report from the members of the Preservation Committee. Ten pews had been purchased and five logs were replace/installed in the church, along with additional work inside the church and outside on the grounds. Thanks were given to the Sacred Harp singers for their contribution of $252.00 to the Preservation Committee.
