Warrior River - Clear Creek Convention

The one hundred twenty-seventh session of the Warrior River Convention and the one hundred-second session of the Clear Creek Convention were held at Old Clear Creek Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday before the first Sunday in August.

Terry Hullett called the class to order at 10:00 a.m. leading song on page 59. Elder Philip Gilmore offered the morning prayer.

The singing resumed with Terry Hullett leading song on page 48t.

A motion was made and seconded to go into a business session. The following officers were elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—Elder Philip Gilmore; Vice Chairman—Paula Gilmore; Secretary—Jewel Wootten; Arranging Committee—Terry Hullett; Memorial Committee—Linda Thomas and Elder Philip Gilmore; Finance Committee—Roie Alexander and Carmon Brothers; Resolutions Committee—Helen Lambert. The business session was closed.

LUNCH

Paula Gilmore brought the afternoon session to order leading songs on pages 29t and 97. Leaders: Billy Williams 154, 89, 448b; Freeman Wootten 63, 111t; Lydia Baswell and Vella Dailey 84, 28b.

Elder Philip Gilmore and Linda Thomas conducted the memorial lesson, and led song on page 45t for the deceased: Ruby Phillips, Eloise Watkins, Avie Blackwood, Herbert Phillips, Marie Aldridge, Woodie Walker, Allen Phillips, Bertie J. Phillips, Austin Phillips, Ted White, Eron White, Nelda Oliver Tolbert, Mary Oliver, Arthur Phillips, and Elmer Conwill.

Elder Philip Gilmore and Linda Thomas led song on page 348b for the sick and shut-ins: Paul Gilliland, Sarah Brothers, Jeff Sheppard, Shelbie Sheppard, Douglas Conn, Lawrence Underwood, Lula Underwood, Eldora Moody, Lillie Lybrand, Annie Brothers, and Ella Lee Robertson. The memorial lesson was closed.

A business session was held. Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church near Oneonta, Alabama will host the convention on Saturday before the first Sunday in August in 2002.

Helen Lambert gave the following Resolutions Committee report.

Be it resolved:

(1) That we always express our thankfulness for friends, both singers and listeners;

(2) To Old Clear Creek Church, and all who have done so much to help carry this singing convention through another session;

(3) To all officers and committees;

(4) That we never forget those no longer with us, whether deceased or in bad health;

(5) And above all, we always try to come together with a song in our hearts for the sole purpose of praising the One who gave so much for us.

The Finance Committee reported a balance brought forward of $72.45. A collection was given in the amount of $40.00. The Convention agreed to give the collection of $40.00 to the church. A total of $30.00 was taken from the previous balance to pay for the minutes, leaving a total on hand of $42.45.

The business session was closed.
