William Walker Memorial Singing

Burwell Building, Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina

The ninth annual session of the William Walker Memorial Singing was held on the Saturday before the second Sunday in April in the Burwell Building of Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina. Hugh McGraw called the class to order at 9:30 a.m., and taught a brief singing school on shape notes and four-shapes, and then led song on page 49t. Dan Huger followed with brief comments on seven-shapes, and then led song on page 78b (CH). Joel Jones offered the morning prayer.

A business session was held with the following officers elected: Chairman—Dr. Harry Eskew; Vice Chairman—Dr. Jhon Akers; Arranging Committee/Secretary—Dan Huger.

The Sacred Harp, 1991 Edition” and “The Christian Harmony, North Carolina and Alabama Editions” were used.

Dr. Harry Eskew brought the afternoon session to order leading songs on page 47t and 128. Leaders: Hugh McGraw 441, 287 (CH) (by request).

Dan Huger conducted the memorial lesson, and led song page 81t (CH) for the deceased.

The class reassembled at the grave of William Walker at Magnolia Cemetery in Spartanburg. The song led at the grave was 146. The class was dismissed with prayer.
