Newton County Georgia Singing

The second annual Newton County Georgia Singing was held on Saturday before the third Sunday in May at Shoal Creek Primitive Baptist Church, southeast of Covington, Georgia. Charles Woods called the class to order by leading song on page 40, and then outlined the traditions that make Sacred Harp unique and worth preserving. Frank Norris offered the morning prayer. Hermon Wilkinson welcomed visitors to his historic church, introduced church members who were in attendance, and led songs on pages 47b and 155.

A business session was called to order, and the following officers were elected or appointed: Chairman—Charles Woods; Vice Chairman—Hermon Wilkinson; Secretary—Arlene Woods; Chaplain—Rev. Frank Norris. A resolution to continue the singing at Shoal Creek Church in the future was adopted.
