The annual Decoration Day Sacred Harp Singing at Old Flatwoods Primitive Baptist Church was held on Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May. The class was called to order by Elder Philip Gilmore leading songs on pages 32t and 30t. Harrison Creel led the congregation in the morning prayer. Elder Philip Gilmore led song on page 37b.

The class organized with the following officers elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—Elder Philip Gilmore; Vice Chairman—Joe Gilmore; Secretary—Jimmie Gilmore; Arranging Committee—Arthur Gilmore and Josh Keeton; Memorial Committee—Jimmie Gilmore, Paula Gilmore, and Ashley Keeton.

RECESS

Joe Gilmore called the class back together leading songs on pages 68b and 176b. Leaders: Ivalene Donaldson 335, 270; Harrison Creel 512, 378b; Chip Ward 348t, 112; Sarah Smith 354b, 108t; Gary Smith and Trey Hudson 515, 31t; Billy Williams 154, 297.

The memorial lesson for the deceased and the sick and shut-ins was led by Jimmie Gilmore, Arthur Gilmore, Philip Gilmore, Pam Keeton, Josh Keeton, Ashley Keeton, and Josie Hyde leading songs on pages 45t and 348b. The following list of deceased were remembered: A.C. McGough, Marie Aldridge, Ruby Phillips, Karen House, Gene Wakefield, Lavada Gilmore, Wilma Davis, Joe Harper, Martha Harper, Grady Harper, Robert Harper, Wallace Harper, Mack Harper, and Nervie Harper. Also remembered were the sick and shut-ins: Elder Garnsey McGough, Ethel McGough, and Elmer Conwill. Jimmie Gilmore and Charlotte Keeton Gober led song on page 176b in memory of Wilma Keeton Davis. The memorial lesson was closed in prayer led by Dennis George.

Gary Smith offered the noon blessing, and indeed we were blessed with plenty of natural food as we had been blessed with plenty of spiritual food in singing before lunch.

Announcements were made. Philip Gilmore, Joe Gilmore, and John Beasley led song on page 49b as the closing song. John Beasley offered the closing prayer, and the class was dismissed.
