B.F. White Memorial Singing

The first session of the B.F. White Memorial Singing was held in memory of the former Mayor of Hamilton, B.F. White, (1865), and “Jake” Moon on the first Saturday in October at the Harris County Courthouse in Hamilton, Georgia. Steve Pace called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and welcomed Hugh McGraw to open the singing with a teaching session.

RECESS

Hugh McGraw called the class to order leading 161 (The Sacred Harp, 1991 Edition). Jim Morgan offered the opening prayer.

A business session was held with the following officers elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—Steve Pace; Vice Chairman—Dr. Harry Eskew; Secretary—Kathy Morris; Chaplain—Jim Morgan.

RECESS

Steve Pace called the class to order leading 452. Leaders: Martha Almond 47b, 46; Ophelia Strickland 334; Henry Zittrouer 59, 490; Faye Hollis 99, 155; Andy Anderson 510; Margie Dietz 61, 121; Mickey Edwards 33b, 38b; Ann Webb 288, 142; Andy Morse 472, 454.

RECESS

Hugh McGraw called the final session to order in the recently renovated historic old courtroom currently serving Superior Court. Leaders: Hugh McGraw 310; Dr. Harry Eskew 535, 85 (a B.F. White tune).

Jim Morgan offered the closing prayer, and the class was dismissed at 2:30 p.m.

The officers met for an information session over dinner at the Copland House. Steve Pace hosted the meeting, and Dr. Eskew presented his paper entitled “The Georgia Origins of Sacred Harp Singing”. Their recommendation was to hold an annual singing in Hamilton.
