The 4th Holmfirth Sacred Harp Day was held at Choppards Mission in the Pennine Hills above Holmfirth in Yorkshire on the last Saturday of March.

The day began with a prayer offered by Helen Brown. There was then a singing school when Carmel Wood, Simon Dumpleton, and Helen Brown explained the shape note system and the traditions of the hollow square. The class practiced 47t, 503, and 39t.

Cath Ingham called the class to order leading 127. Leaders: Ian West 276; Ted Brown 49b; Judy Whiting 171; Michael Walker 53; Margaret Gillanders 84; Benny Ross 28t; Sarah Pinney 282; Simon Dumpleton 146; Jacqui Selby-MacLeod 122; Peter Knudssen 503; Sally Greaves-Lord 501; Carmel Wood 457. Helen Brown offered a prayer for the noon meal.

LUNCH

The memorial lesson was conducted by Judy Whiting leading 475 in memory of Amanda Denson, Mike Beswick, Ken Ross, Vera Ross, Roy West, Peter Hampson, Denis Rungen, and La Rue Allen.

Chris Brown led 178 for the following sick and housebound: Jean McDougall, Betty Dumpleton, Sid Dumpleton, Stan Shaw, Joan Mattock, Joanna Keable, and Mel Browne.
