The 89th session of the South Georgia Sacred Harp Singing Convention was called to order by Wesley Haley leading 59. Prayer was offered by Wayne Watson, after which Wesley Haley led 108b.

Leaders: Oscar McGuire 145t, 75; David Grant 96, 569b; Wayne Watson 47b, 49b; Shannon Primm 550, 569t; Jeanette DePoy 300, 347; Robert Kelley 125, 234; Lela Crowder 391, 124; Tony Hammock 132, 116.

Before recess, Mrs. Betty Crawford of Barnesville, Georgia, invited singers to come and sing during Barnesville Buggy Days next September, 2009.

RECESS

Wesley Haley brought the class together leading 146. Leaders: Jenna Strizak 77t, 421; Billy Hollingsworth 365, 236; Judy Chambless 284, 34t; John Plunkett 205, 227; Helen Bryson 178, 522; B.M. Smith 222, 340.

A business session was held, and the following officers were confirmed for 2009: President—Oscar McGuire; Vice President—Lela Crowder; Secretary/Treasurer—Bentley McGuire; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer—Mary Brownlee; Chaplain—Wayne S. Watson; Assistant Chaplain—David Grant.

The list of singings scheduled for the coming year were reviewed and confirmed, but due to lack of support, the singing at Lebanon Church near Cordele will be dropped. The business session was concluded with the Treasurer’s Report.

LUNCH

Wesley Haley brought the class together leading 34b. The memorial lesson was conducted by Mary Brownlee leading 111b and 163b to honor the memory of Polly Hester and Lee Rogers.

Lela Crowder led 129 to remember the sick and shut-ins.

The singing was resumed with Rita Haley leading 268 and 63. Leaders: John Hollingsworth 182, 186; Rosemund Watson 49t, 66, 94; Martha Harrell 39t, 211.

After announcements, Oscar McGuire and Lela Crowder led 62 as the closing song. Hugh McGraw dismissed the class with prayer.
