The 3rd annual Augusta Sacred Harp Singing was held at Augusta Old Line Primitive Baptist Church, 3646 Old Petersburg Road, Martinez, Georgia, on Saturday before the first Sunday in May. Gene Pinion began the meeting at 9:30 with a singing school and history. He explained the shaped notes and the four-part harmony sung by Sacred Harp singers. After the lesson and history, Agnes Roberts welcomed everyone, and led “The Great Roll Call” from a printed handout. Elder Dwayne Hooven, pastor of Augusta Old Line Primitive Baptist Church, gave the welcome from the church, and offered the opening prayer.

The class was called to order by Joyce Heath at 10:00 a.m. leading 127 and 318. Leaders: Frank DeBolt 569b, 63; Tom Ivey 201, 32t; Oscar McGuire 171, 75; Mary Brownlee 78, 84; Tollie Lee 30t, 565; Ted Seaman 64, 340; John Gentry 33b, 289.
