The annual Sacred Harp singing held at Midway Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday before the third Sunday in August was called to order by Hayden Arp leading 101t. Elder Jesse Roberts offered the opening prayer.

RECESS

Hayden Arp led 145t to bring the class together. A business session was held and the following officers and committee members were elected or appointed to serve: Chairman—B.M. Elder Joe Hayes, pastor of the church, welcomed everyone, and requested the class sing 271 (OSH). The class was called to order by David Brodeur leading 76b. Leaders: David Smead 227; Elizabeth Gentry 319 (for Michael Appert).

Karen Rollins and Darrell Swarens conducted the memorial lesson. Darrell talked about home. His spoke of his home in Indiana, and his home in the square. He led 345b in honor of the following sick and shut-ins: B.M. Smith, Margie Smith, Dan Summerlin, Michael Appert, Eloise Wootten, Ben Price, and Charlotte Heard.

Karen Rollins spoke of memories, and how thankful she is for memories of singing and singers. She continued by saying memories are important to each person, and to the Sacred Harp tradition. She read the following list of names of the deceased: S.T. Reed, Gary Smith, Toney Smith, and Elsie Moon—Alabama; Earlis McGraw, Geneva Prichard, and Bernice Steadman Thompson—Georgia; Janelle Davis—Illinois; Oliver Kindig-Stokes—Pennsylvania; Lewis Bennett and Betty Jo Bennett—South Carolina. Karen and Darrell led 119. Elder Jesse Roberts closed the memorial service with prayer.
