South Georgia Sacred Harp Singing Convention

The 104th session of the South Georgia Sacred Harp Singing Convention was held on Saturday before the first Sunday in October at the Civic Center in Roberta, Georgia. President Oscar McGuire called the class together leading 59. Elder Chris Robinson gave the opening prayer.

RECESS

The class entered into a business session in which the following officers were elected to serve: President—Bill DuPre; Vice President—John Plunkett; Secretary-Treasurers—Jesse P. Karlsberg and Lauren Bock; Chaplain—Elder Chris Robinson. Helen Bryson presented the treasurer’s report for 2022-23, which the class approved. The class reviewed and confirmed the list of singings for 2023. The business session was closed. Elder Chris Robinson offered the blessing over the noon meal.

LUNCH

Oscar McGuire began the afternoon session leading 37b. Leaders: Abigail Cannon 384, 284 (for Lilly Hammond); Mary Brownlee and Lilly Hooks 348b; Mary Brownlee, John Brownlee, and Lilly Hooks 47b; Lilly Hooks 354b; Wayne Watson 480.

Oscar McGuire led the memorial lesson leading 77t for the following deceased and sick and shut-ins. The deceased remembered were Philip Denney and Virginia Dyer—Georgia; Hubert Nall, Pearl Guier, Ann Simpson, and Chita Blakely—Alabama. The sick and shut-ins recognized were Phillip Ford, Susan Ford, Bethanie Hagues, Bill Hollingsworth, Elsie Hollingsworth, John Hollingsworth, and Jesse Roberts. John Plunkett concluded the memorial lesson with prayer.
